(Global Times, Dec.28,07)

During the middle part of December, I went to Japan to take part in the 11th China-America-Japan trilateral dialog, which was jointly organized by the Chinese Institute of International Studies, the Japanese Institute of International Studies, and the USA's Asia Foundation. This trilateral dialog was set up at the end of 1990, with the three sides all hoping to shift to a new level dialog between well-known experts and scholars, as well as current and former diplomatic officials. The dialog also aimed to strengthen communication, accelerate the building of mutual trust, and construct a platform for collaboration between the three countries. The topics of discussion are different on every occasion, but all reflect what the three sides are paying most attention to. By comparing some of these dialogs, the author aims to illustrate some of the major general changes that have taken place in trilateral relations during recent years.
