Abstract: With regard to the Taiwan question,The Report to the Chinese Communist Party’s20th National Congress has provided fundamental guidelines for advancing national reunification in anew era confronted with momentous changes in the international landscape. Adopting a macro per-spective,this paper argues that the accelerated evolution of the global power structure and the ac-companying risks, challenges, and opportunities will bring forth a great impact on the formulationand implementation of Chinese mainland’s Taiwan policy. In view of the US provocative measures toexploit Taiwan to contain China, this paper analyzes the risks of the Taiwan Straits crisis against thebackdrop of the intensifying China-US strategic competition. Finally, this article points out that inthe face of the ever-changing international situation and in line with the overall strategy for resolvingthe Taiwan question in the new era,Chinese mainland will not only stick to the fundamental doctrineof peaceful reunification and One Country,Two Systems but also adhere to the path of integrated de-velopment across the Taiwan Straits. Any separatist scheme for“Taiwan independence”and foreigninterference will be resolutely opposed in the process of realizing national reunification. Keywords: The Report to the 20th CPC National Congress, global landscape,China-US com-petition,national reunification
