【Abstract】In June 2019,the United States and ASEAN published Indo-Pacific Strategy and ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific respectively, laying out their distinctive visions, objectives, and interests in the Indo-Pacific regional order. At first glance, both documents mentioned the “ASEAN Centrality”, implying some common grounds between the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy and ASEN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. However, further analysis shows that there are great differences between the two apparently converging ”ASEAN Centrality”, in objectives, priorities, and means to achieve goals, among others. Needless to say, there is still room for cooperation in the areas of maritime security, infrastructure development, and digital and cyber security, the U.S.-ASEAN relations will face increasing challenges ahead as the competition between China and the U.S. deepens and the intentions of the United States to lead the regional order become increasingly prominent.
