October 29, 2008: Mr. George Like of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) visited CAS, and was briefed by Professor Shen Dingli, Director of the CAS, about its development and current status. Later Mr. George Like gave a lecture chaired by Professor Wu Xinbo, Deputy Director of the CAS, on “U.S. Foreign Assistance Program” to the CAS faculty and students.

Mr. George Like introduced the origin of the establishment of the USAID, its main functions and the importance how these programs help strengthen the friendship and relation between the U.S. and other states. His lecture also provided detailed information of the Fudan Foundation, and three other programs funded by the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad under the USAID.

After the lecture, Mr. George Like answered questions, and made further discussion with Fudan faculty and students concerning the operation and coordination between USAID with other departments, post-September 11 U.S. foreign aid policy, American values promoted by these programs and the financial and budgetary issue of foreign assistance.
