On the afternoon of May 25, 2023, to celebrate the 118th anniversary of the founding of Fudan University, the Center for American Studies (CAS) of Fudan University held a Roundtable Discussion on "Building an Independent Knowledge System for American Studies in China," contributing to the Fudan University 2023 Think Tank Week. Professor Xu Yihua, Professor Cai Cuihong, Professor Zhao Minghao, Professor Zhang Jiadong and Professor Song Guoyou delivered keynote speeches on "How to Boost the Academic Independence of American Studies in China," "Analysis and Critique of Traditional Research on American Digital Hegemony," "Critical Thinking on the Independent Knowledge System for American Studies in China," "Suggestions to Building an Independent Knowledge System of American studies in China," "A Try in Building an Independent Knowledge System of American Economic Studies in China." Professor Wu Xinbo, Director of the Center for American Studies and Dean of the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, hosted the roundtable discussion. More than 50 Fudan students and faculty members participated in the roundtable.
During the Q&A session, students and faculty discussed several thought-provoking topics, including the field research of American Studies, U.S. Federalism and Digital Hegemony, access to the U.S. official data, the competition for the discourse between Chinese and U.S. Scholars, the recognition of the independent knowledge system of American studies in China.
