Ezra Feivel Vogel, a professor emeritus at Harvard University and leading U.S. scholar on East Asian affairs, passed away at the age of 90 on December 20th, 2020.
Hailed as an old friend of the Chinese people, Professor Vogel had exerted unremitting endeavors to promote communication and exchanges between China and the United States, as well as commitment to advancing friendship and mutual trust between the two countries. Professor Vogel had established long-term close ties with the academia in China since his first visit in 1973, constituting enormous contributions to foster China-U.S. relations and revisiting the Center for American Studies to attend international conferences and meanwhile to deliver featured thematic speeches on occasions as CAS academic consultant at Fudan, reinforcing academic exchanges and collaborations between the Center for American Studies at Fudan University and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University.
On behalf of the CAS community at Fudan University, Professor Wu Xinbo, Director of the Center for American Studies cum Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan extended messages of condolences over passing of Professor Vogel to Michael Szonyi, Director of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and Frank Wen-Hsiung Wu Memorial Professor of Chinese History at Harvard University, mourning emminent sinologist Ezra F. Vogel and conveying the deepest sympathies to Professor Vogel's family.
